Wineglass Bay, Tasmania
Surrounded by a natural amphitheater of granite mountains, Wineglass Bay is a huge white sand beach that is simply glorious. Sheltered, quiet and remote, this beach has everything that you need to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. Be sure to come with everything that you need for the day and be prepared for the water to be much colder than other parts of the country when you dip your toe in. Despite the cold water, this is still one of the best swimming spots in the country.
Coalcliff Beach, New South Wales
Just a two-hour drive south of Sydney in the Illawarra region of NSW is Wollongong, locally known simply as “The Gong”. The coastline here is punctuated with countless rock pools and surfing beaches but there are plenty of places you can jump in for a swim too. A firm crowd favorite is Coalcliff beach. Surrounded by cliffs and rocks, there is a saltwater rock pool at the southern end of the beach that swimmers will love. A favorite with locals, this beach is popular with surfers, dog walkers, beach-goers and swimmers alike, and the coastal views are amazing.
